Hello, If any of you would care to comment, I’d like to know what you think of widening the paran time orbs to fish out a planet’s underlying star story in a natal chart.Example: using the 2 min orb standard on Startlight, a given planet is seen in paran with a rising star and a setting star, but not a culminating one. To look for the evolution of the planet’s expression through the adult years, widening the time orb may reveal a wider paran with a culminating star.I’ll resist asking how wide an orb one should allow in search of a story! But I’m curious to know if any of you have worked this way, and what you’ve found in terms of the story holding water. Cheers,Tom

Hi Everyone, Tonight – 1st December, 2008 – there is a lovely Venus Moon Jupiter combination. It occurs in the cape of Sagittarius and will be visible low in the west just after sunset. For those of you at northern latitudes have a look between 17:00 – 18:00 in the western sky. For those of you in the south you will see it about 30 minutes after sunset depending on what that local time will be.
In the northern hemisphere the Moon and Venus both pass underneath Jupiter. Another way of looking at this is to say that Jupiter “is over the moon”. Thus Venus which is a bright evening star at the moment will be radiating Jupiter and the Moon as the moon-god “Sin” will also be bestowing a blessing on Jupiter.
Apart from looking beautiful in the sky the visual astrology meaning is a great blessing on the “Crown Prince”, the person who is second in command. In the USA this is unfolding as the empowering of Barack Obama (the current USA crown prince). Here in the UK it could be an empowering of either the opposition leader OR the deputy leader OR indeed even Prince Charles himself.
So firstly if you have a clear sky tomorrow night then do take the chance to have a look at this beautiful combination and secondly watch for signs of this in your world. Even in your own house hold, or work place it is a time of blessing and benefit to the one who is second in command! If you are in the southern hemisphere then Venus still blesses the crown prince but the Moon passing over the top of Jupiter will indicate that the blessing is reduced in some way.
I would love to hear your feedback on this combination, both your impressions of it visually as well as its manifestation in your life.

Hi Everyone,
The November newsletter was sent out last week, but if you missed it I have posted it to the Newsletter Archive at http://www.zyntara.com/starlight_newsletters.htm
The newsletter is focused on the current changing world and the concept of the “Symplegades” in the sky - the gateway within the constellation Libra - which is one of the sky places which indicate periods of change, both personally or in the mundane sphere.
Additionally Darrelyn has taken a closer look at the Obama’s outer star and planet parans - these give another view of the new president which we think adds to our knowledge of the man.
I would be most interested if people have natal planets in the “Symplegades” so have a look at the newsletter and post something to this blog if you have some comments.
Bye for now

Hullo Everyone,
On the night of the USA elections Darrelyn and I were in Istanbul with a group of Turkish astrologers - Hakan Kirkoglou and some of his teachers and students. We were in a restaurant looking out over the Golden Horn and twinkling lights of Istanbul with Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque dominating the panoramic view. But as wonderful as that view was, it was the sky that was putting on the show. Setting, and hanging over the domes and clusters of minarets was a brilliant Venus near “Sin” the moon god, who was a silver crescent sliding underneath and illuminating Jupiter.
The US election was on our mind, as the plan was to sit up all night and watch CNN in Hakan’s house, so talk was on charts, history and hopes. But I pointed out the window and said, “Look, there is the answer, written in the sky.”
The Moon, a lovely crescent, was giving all power to Jupiter (by passing underneath it), so the young contender, the “Crown Prince”, was being blessed by the Moon and both were being radiated by the brilliant Venus. We discussed this in the last VAN but to be able to see it so clearly in the sky, rather than half-guessing it under the cloudy skies of Bristol, UK, was a wondrous sight.

[Istanbul - this is not my photo, but this is the view over the Golden Horn that was the canvas for the sky-show of the crescent Moon, Venus and Jupiter]
Indeed the sky left us in no doubt, for there really could be no other way of interpreting THAT night sky, for on this special night the “throne” was up for grabs and according to the Moon and Venus, the young prince would win! We of course still stayed up all night, nothing would have stopped us, a small group of astrologers on the Asian side of Istanbul glued to a TV, drinking Turkish tea, focused on every comment, every set of new figures.
And then by 6am Istanbul time … we like the rest of the world wept with joy, like the rest of the world we danced, and like the rest of the world we hugged each other. We spent the morning talking of a new world, filled with hope and pride and marvelling at the ability of the “soul” of America in one night to restore dignity and pride to its entire people.
Out of all of this what I will remember is two things: that sky view, and Obama’s acceptance speech, for the Sky and State were joined together in perfect harmony - the young prince standing on the stage, the brilliant sky empowering the prince. It might not be good to have religion and state joined, but I for one am extremely pleased that the Sky and State are a perfect interlinking union!
We are back in Bristol now, under cloudy skies again, but I will never forget that sky…
What were you doing, where were you when Obama won? Lets hear it from all of you, from all over the world.
cheers
Bernadette

The September 2008 VAN delighted me with one of the most original views of the astrology of U.S. election cycles I’d seen. Instead of (yet another) rework of outer planet cycles we got to see, up close and personal, the impact of an inner planet of forgotten power: Venus. Long story short: election years with Venus as morning star tend to favor the party already in power; election years with Venus as evening star tend to favor a challenger ‘taking the throne’.
Then, given the more modern mundane association of Sun=ruler, Moon=those ruled, I began to wonder if Sin, the Babylonian Moon god, ever played a role in the elections. Sin was supposed to be able to grant or withhold support for other planets depending on his position relative to them when they shared the sky. Most principally, one would look at whether He passed above them (overshadowing them), below them (supporting them) or occulted them, blocking them from sight for some length of time during the night.
Short digression: I found two ideas from previous VAN’s about lunar occultations. The April 2005 VAN article “To Dance With the Devil in The Pale Moonlight” featured the occultation dance the Moon periodically performs with Antares from Dec 2005 through Feb 2010. The interpretive idea proposed is that when the Moon occults either a star or planet, that star or planet is seen, visually, to penetrate the Moon, injecting it with its energy which the Moon then passes on to the world below. However, in the June 2007 VAN, the Moon’s occultation of a Venus-Saturn alignment near Regulus is interpreted as Sin visually blocking out the visibility of this alignment and so preventing it from manifesting as fully as it could. How is this important? Stay tuned…
I haven’t completed my analysis of Sin’s activities for each and every 20th century US presidential election but a cursory analysis uncovered something really interesting. The thing that struck me about the beautiful sky maps in the September VAN for evening star elections that resulted in regime change was…the complete absence of Sin. His appearance in 20th and 21st century electional charts is spotty but I suspect that, when He appears He does make a difference.
And He will be most emphatically present this year. Below is a close-up of the southwestern sky over Washington DC at 5:30 pm on the eve of the election (Nov 3 2008):
Note the exact conjunction of Sin (Moon) with the Crown Prince (Jupiter).
The waxing crescent Moon passes supportively beneath Jupiter, the challenger.
Bernadette’s hypothesis is that elections conducted when Venus is an evening star indicates a strong possibility for regime change. But since this is not an absolute given, one of her questions was: Although Venus and Jupiter are not that far apart, is She close enough to radiate the Crown Prince and thus help clinch His victory? Well, my question is: will Sin’s extra support help ensure the Crown Prince’s victory even if Venus is too far away?
Here’s an example of an election where I think Sin made a difference. As the September VAN pointed out, the 1980 election featured a morning star Venus which should have favored the party already in power—the Democrats. Instead, there was an upset and Republican Ronald Reagan was elected.
Below is the eastern sky above Washington DC around 4:00 am:
Note the traffic jam over there!
Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Moon crammed together amongst the stars of Virgo.
Since there was a Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in play at the time, Venus was radiating both the King (Saturn) and the Crown Prince (Jupiter). With Her power seemingly distributed to both, was there something else that tipped the scales and made the “overthrow” possible?
I think it was the waxing Moon—Sin—who occulted both Venus and Saturn while passing supportively beneath the Crown Prince—Jupiter—as the combination rose shortly before 4:00 am.
Interesting thought: did Sin’s occultation of Venus and Saturn prevent their union from fully manifesting (according to the June 2007 VAN) or was He “fertilized” with their power (according to the May 2005 VAN), which He then laid visually at the feet of Jupiter?
So it will be interesting to see if Sin’s support helps clinch success for this year’s Crown Prince, Barack Obama. A final note: does Sin occult any bodies on the way to this conjunction, as He did in 1980? He does: on 31 October he will occult the fixed Royal Star Antares, although the event will not be visible in Washington DC since it takes place in the early afternoon there. In holding to the spirit of visual astrology, I’m not sure how much importance to attach to a phenomenon that won’t actually be seen.

Equinox comes along with Mars, Mercury and Venus in Libra all trine to Neptune.
So I got enchanted with some music, and just want to share with you, how Alphard with Mercury, Fomalhaut with Jupiter, and Vega with Saturn make a really great voice:

Eclipsed! (I hope.)
The Republic of Italy.
Clearly it isn’t possible to send the Republic to a good psychologist, but I’m sure it would help recover some positivity if things were seen clearer, from different directions, by as many people as possible.
The referendum voting for the abolition of the Royal Family originally took place on June 2nd.1946. This is the day celebrated (sic) every year as Republic Day. (Well, people get a day off, anyway. I have a regular party, but, because the Republic has now lost so much respect, I’ve taken to admitting that I’m really celebrating my birthday!) Royal objections held up the formal announcement of the result until 6pm (4pm GMT) on June 10th.. It is this data (Campion: World Horoscopes) which is set for the birth of the present Republic, on June 10th., 1946; Rome. It all happened between the Solar Eclipse (2 Old North) on May 30th.1946 and its accompanying lunar eclipse on June 14th. Bernadette speaks of this eclipse as being ‘difficult’, bringing ‘unfortunate news concerning friendships or relationships. You will be dealing with ideas of separation or the ending of a union.’Spot on.
The chart of the Republic is very graphic. 1.No earth; no contact with physical reality – specifically the land itself and its treasures and the hugely important agricultural and peasant communities. 2. Chart shaped like partially open umbrella with no handle; planets squashed between mid Gemini & early Scorpio. 3.Scorpio Asc. Last month’s solar eclipse took place on 9°32 Leo. Pluto, chart Ruler, at the centre of a 9th. House stellium, at 9°58’ Leo, flanked on either side by Mars 24°35’Leo and Saturn at 23° 21’Cancer. (The governing Plutocracy proudly, religiously, supported by the Mafia?) 4. Moon invisible in 12 comfortingly trined to little confused Mercury-square-Neptune and sesquiquadrate to communications and media mogul, Signor Sole (guess currently who) conj. Uranus and Node. Venus conj. Saturn square Jupiter & Chiron. Thus women & children put very nicely in their place thank you. Virgin Madonnas, Mothers and skivvies are fine, but women? What are they?
Did the eclipse provide an opportunity to give up some of so very many nasty things which now plague governance in Italy? Maybe. But how would one know? And what might one usefully do about it?With only Jupiter in an earth sign, and the progressed Republic chart showing hardly any change except for the temporary fixed air umbrella handle provided by the Moon as it approaches the IC, perhaps one was hoping for too much. Very Mary Poppins.
I followed Bernadette’s method of prediction and came up with much that felt appropriate:As a result of a death or a desire for change, and hidden things now being visible (not half!) it becomes apparent that outworn philosophies could be given up. A result of this could change social attitudes …. And a very great deal more in the same vein. But Bernadette’s eclipse piece suggests not much time was available to take advantage. And surely people need to be really awake. What with Neptune managing to find a nice quiet spot to doze in for the last couple of years and Uranus screaming ‘Wake up!’ loud and clear to the fishes, what hope is there that Pluto will suddenly shake off his mafioso guards and mine for the transforming gold the eclipse could possibly have revealed to this collective prospecting pilgrim?I had a telescope and binocular party to watch the lunar eclipse right the way across the sky. We saw 4 of Jupiter’s moons, too. It’s so incredibly lovely here. But the system is so ugly.I looked at Italy’s chart again – and at Berlusconi’s. The potential for essential change certainly exists, but, not being deep inside the Italian culture myself, I am unable to fathom or feel the nature and speed of it.I am engaged in global (non-party) politics at this time of such peril for our beautiful planet Earth. The knowledge held by serious astrologers is much needed. Is there anybody out there who might be interested in an astrological discussion which could be put to practical use?
Best to all,
Gilda

Hullo Everyone
The September Visual Astrology Newsletter has been sent out as well as it is now up on the web site for the VAN archives. _ Here is the link, if you missed getting your copy.
http://www.zyntara.com/starlight_newsletters.htm
Also some of you have let me know that there is a typo in the newsletter, under the caption for the sky map for the forth coming election is the date “7th November, 2008″, The sky map is for the 4th Nov, the date of the election, and thus the caption should read “4th November, 2008″.
Thank you

While doing mundane astrology, I always looked for an astrological explanation for the time between the 12th century, when the Inquisition started in Europe, and the 18th century, when the witch-hunting hysteria slowly ended.

In 1487 the “Malleus maleficarum”, a handbook for witch-hunters and Inquisitors, was published. Looking at the sky at the time of the Winter Solstice, there were Sun conjunct Mercury, and Uranus, Saturn, Mars and Neptune all in the constellation of Sagittarius, and the Moon close by in Scorpius. In some distance Jupiter and Venus were in Capricornus, concerned with laws to improve life for all. The catholic church officially did not support that book, but it was used nevertheless.
The constellation Sagittarius contains the Nebula “Facies”, which according to Bernadette Brady “holds the most difficult and possibly most violent symbolism in the heavens” (Star and Planet Combinations, p.166). At about the 12th century the Sun started to raise with Facies on the Winter Solstices, and the position of the Solstice has stayed in the constellation Sagittarius until the end of the 18th century. So here might be a clue as to why theses centuries have been so dark.

The situation in Georgia/South Ossetia agrees very well with Bernadette’s description of the forthcoming lunar eclipse - intrigue in halls of power and countries dividing and/or reuniting. But I thought I’d also take a look at the visual astrology for the area, especially as Sirius is often the heliacal rising star around this time of year. I used Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia, and using the parapegma in ‘Starlight’ discovered that Sirius became the heliacal rising star there on Monday 4 August, its last day being Thursday 7 August (i.e. the day Georgia launched its attack on South Ossetia). Moreover, around 16:30 the Moon entered Scorpio, so both Sun and Moon were in fixed signs (but not yet square - that occurred the next day, when Russia joined in).
There are some very interesting mundane parans, perhaps the most striking being:
Moon/Pollux - help which is needed fails to arrive
Moon/El Nath - a group suffers from the cruelty of others
Mercury/Capulus - A confronting news article, strong criticism (circumpolar)
Mercury/El Nath - one who speaks out, abrasive language or speeches
Mercury/Antares - anxiety and worry
Mars/Betelgeuse - the establishment uses a heavy hand
Jupiter/Arcturus - a leader rises to the occasion and takes bold action
Saturn/Capella - fast action required by civic leaders, or the law makers
There are some very powerful stars in paran during this period, including two Royal Stars (Regulus and Antares) and two of the most difficult stars (Algol and Capulus). And of course, Sirus ‘the Scorcher.’
Best wishes
Moragh
