Zosma and the Winter Solstice

The Capricorn Ingress of the Sun is used especially in Mundane Astrology to look at the time of the Winter Solstice, at the following three month until the Spring Equinox, or even to find main themes for the whole year until the next Winter Solstice.
The horoscope of this next Capricorn Ingress (December 22, 2007 at 06:07:49h UT, Moon at 4°56 Gemini) shows a conjunction between Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto, all in Opposition to Mars. These make a wide trine/sextile to Saturn, which is squared by the Moon.
While looking at the Parans of these Planets, especially Zosma seems to make significant contact to several of them at the same time, at different places of the World.
According to what I understood from Bernadette Brady’s lectures and her “Book of Fixed Stars”, Zosma is about the victim or a victimizing situation, in which people can be brought by the system or the establishment. Very often this might even be invisible, or it has to do with the help for those who have been victimized already.
In the Visual Astrology Newsletter of October 2006, Darrelyn Gunzburg has been writing about Zosma.
So here are two examples where the fixed star Zosma will make contact to several parts of the Ingress-Horoscope:
Both Mars and Saturn will be in Paran with Zosma at a latitude between 35° and 35,5° N (Saturn: about 32,5°-35,5°N, Mars: about 35°-36°N). Also at that latitude and in the very moment of the Solstice, Zosma will be rising at the Ascendant at a Longitude of about 119° W (with 1°Orb). This is a small area in California (USA), with Bakersfield as the biggest city in the center (35°N21′26″, 119°W01′54″).
There Saturn and Moon are right on the AC and MC, and Uranus close to the DC, which gives a clue that there might be some stern restrictions and the wish to get free from these, and a basic need of the people getting visible and becoming a public or political issue.
Zosma will be setting somewhere in Tibet (Xizang, China) at this Latitude, near Wudaoliang (35°N12′, 93°E03′), with about 7 Minutes Orb.
Further south, around the world, there is a small stripe at Latitude 28,5°N, where at least 3 out of Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto can be found together in Paran with Zosma very often. Here Zosma is setting close to Lhasa (Tibet-Xizang, China) and Katmandu (Nepal). Since it is difficult to find cities in that area, this has an orb of about 10 Minutes.
In Lhasa, Pluto, Sun and Jupiter are right on the MC and Mars is on the IC, which signifies a lot of political struggle or pressure, or fighting for one’s rights, and might even include an extensive use of weapons for, or against, the home and basic needs of the people.

Hi Cornelia and everybody,
Quite a story you wrote on the Blog!
I think that it is most interesting to see what is going to happen in the area of Lhasa. Especially if you also look at the world geodetically:
Mars is geodetically now in Cancer and was and will be on the MC in Lhasa ( 90E58 = 91 degrees East = 1 degree Cancer, Greenwich beginning at 0 degrees Aries) last week, at the end of December this year and again in March next year.
And Pluto is geodetically in the beginning of 2008 coming for the first time this round (last time will be in November 2009) at 1 degree Capricorn, so on the IC of Lhasa, being at 1 degree Cancer.
When Pluto is on the IC of a place or city, it can have quite a transforming effect.
In April 1986 Pluto was 2 degrees from the IC of Moscow, when the Tsjernobyl
disaster took place, in august 1990 Pluto was on the IC of Bagdad, at the
beginning of the first Gulf War and in January 1995 at the beginning of the
occupation of the Taliban in Afghanistan Pluto stood at 0 degree
Sagittarius, on the Western border of Afghanistan.
So when Pluto comes on the IC of a place you would better be careful,
although of course not everywhere on the IC of all places in the world these
kinds of things are happening when Pluto comes along.
Lhasa however, with the fixed star Zosma setting and all the parans you have described for the Capricorn Ingress chart, is a place, which has several indications at the same time during the period of the 3 months from December 22.
With Pluto just in Capricorn what can we expect?
Thinking of Tibet I looked up the chart in the Book of World Horoscopes of
Nicholas Campion.
In this book the chart of Tibet has the MC at 02:51 degrees in Capricorn and
the Sun at 18:43 degrees in Pisces.
This is the chart of the Tibetan Revolution on 10 March 1959, Lhasa. Time is 07:00 a.m.
In the story that goes with it is mentioned that the Dalai Lama thought it likely that the demonstrations which would escalate into the uprising began in between 6:30 and 7:00 am.
The horoscope for this time should represent the Tibetans’ aspirations to independent nationhood.
When you take for this chart a time which is 10 minutes before seven (this could also well be the ‘natal’ time, being in between 6:30 and 7:00 am), then transit Pluto will come on the MC in the first months of 2008.
Additionally transit Mars will come on the IC and transit Uranus and transit Sun will come on the natal Sun both about the 10th of March 2008, the National Uprising Day.
I’m really anxious to know what is going to happen there, especially while
the Olympic Summer Games will be taking place in China in August 2008.

Good chewy posts … Indeed I think it is always a good learning tool to look at forthcoming charts and use the star parans to find the potentially difficult spots - so thank you both Cornelia and Elly I will watch these places with interest. It would be very good to revisit these two posts after the solstice.
Has anyone else got a place they want to add to this watch list?
Also remember you can upload the charts as well which helps all of us to follow your arguments. I have upload the chart for Cornelia’s post for the place she suggests - Bakersfield, CA.
Bye for now
Bernadette
Hi Elly and Bernadette,
Thank you for your answers and comments.
In my german edition of the Book of World Horoscopes I do not find Tibet at all, so I can not read more about your quotes there. I have tried to gain some more information on the internet. It seems that Tibet is over 2000 years old, and has been independent for a long time. A history as to how Tibetans seem to regard it, can be found here: http://www.tibetoffice.org/en/ (there see: “About Tibet”)
So the “Revolution” seems to be no Revolution at all, but a fight of Tibet’s people against chinese Invaders. This is a very important date concerning the tibetan struggle for independence, but it did not have any lasting success, so I would not necessarily consider it as a Horoscope for Tibet itself.
Since on March 10, 1963, the Dalai Lama declared a new democratic Constitution to be immediately effective on Tibet regaining freedom, this could be another interesting date, especially regarding the newly founded political system for Tibet, and the modern state that Tibet might become some day.
Quote:
“For this purpose, I have prepared a future Constitution for Tibet which is consistent with the teachings of Lord Buddha and with the rich spiritual and temporal heritage of our history and democracy. This Constitution provides for effective participation by the people and also for securing social and economic justice. I have decided that on Tibet regaining freedom the Constitution shall immediately come into force but later may be suitably recast on the advice of the elected representatives of the people.
I invoke the blessings of Divine Providence on all mankind.
The Dalai Lama

I could not find the location and time where and when he did this, but since it is meant for Tibet, it might as well be posssible to relocate it to Lhasa.
There at Noon and at Midnight Zosma is at an angle for that day!
In this period of time, Zosma was in Paran with Pluto as well.
I do not know either, when does the day officially start in Tibet. Is it sunrise or is it Midnight … or should we take the noon chart?
If you take midnight, then the day prior to the declaration is the day when the Parans should be examined. There Zosma is in Paran with the Moon as well.
If you take Noon, there is a Full Moon, Moon in the 4th house with Cancer at the Ascendant, and Mercury in the 9th house in Pisces shows the exile-situation very well. To my opinion, the constellations and parans of that chart fit more into things looking forward to the future, while the ones of the day before rather seem to look backwards … very intersting …
Concerning the chart of Nicholas Campion’s book, that you refer to:
If you actually take a time for this chart which is 10 minutes before seven, as you propose, then Zosma again is on the angles at exactly that moment.
You mention the Olympic Summer Games, and that might indeed be very interesting, just look how China reacted on the German chancellor Angela Merkel’s contact to the Dalai Lama recently.
Thank you for that observation about Mars and Pluto geodetically:
Mars will then also make a transit to it’s position at the IC of the Ingresshoroscope which I mentioned above. (Mars is at that Position for the first time right now!)
Mars is in very high declination there as well, which seems to put emphasis on it’s effects. Also it is closest to earth during it’s opposition to the Sun, which happens around wintersolstice this year, but it is in its aphelic position, so it will not be as close and not as bright as on other occasions.
Bernadette, is there any ancient knowledge to the effects of such a Mars position?
Cornelia.
