The conference was located
in Matjiesfontein
Matjiesfontein, a lush oasis in the Little Karoo, was
founded in 1884
by the legendary James Douglas Logan. It has become well known for
its splendid historical
buildings and in testament the entire Village was restored in 1970
and declared a National Historic Monument.
We stayed at the historic
Lord Milner Hotel, which is pictured below and was an experience just by itself.
The rooms were all from the Victorian era so no two rooms were the
same but all had ensuites. This was a remote location, so we could see
the sky thus the internet and use of cell phones was intermittent
but all rooms did have land-line phones.
Located 250 km north of Cape Town, the location has
very little light pollution and
offered excellent views of the southern hemisphere night skies -
Scorpio was be rising as
we arrived!
